ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A man from Washington D.C. is in custody following a pursuit Monday night in Rockingham County.

Shortly before 10 o’clock, Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson reports that deputies were attempting to stop a vehicle headed eastbound on Spotswood Trail for Reckless Driving when the suspect vehicle suddenly fled in the McGaheysville area.

“After a very brief pursuit the vehicle crashed and overturned near East Point Road, and the driver of the vehicle fled on foot,” Hutcheson said. “After a brief foot pursuit, the individual was safely apprehended.”

Hutcheson said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Joe Davis Ramsey, was arrested on charges including Reckless Driving, Felony Eluding, and Driving Under the Influence.

Incidentally, the 23-year-old Ramsey was wearing an electronic monitoring device on his ankle related to previous charges accumulated in the DC area.

He is currently being held at Rockingham-Harrisonburg Regional Jail.
