SHENANDOAH, VA (Rocktown Now) – UPDATE (4/1/26): Page County authorities have released the name of the person who died in yesterday morning’s shooting involving a sheriff’s deputy.

Public Information Officer Lisa Procacina reports that 29-year-old Kevin McAlister of Elkton died at the scene of the shooting in the Naked Creek area near the town of Shenandoah.

ORIGINAL STORY (3/31/26):

One person is dead following a shooting Tuesday morning in Page County.

A deputy with the Page County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call shortly before 11:30 in the Naked Creek area near the town of Shenandoah.

Upon arrival, the deputy saw a person who was wanted on a capias warrant and a foot pursuit began.

Based on the review of body-worn camera footage, the individual brandished a firearm at the officer. After repeated commands to drop the firearm were unsuccessful, the officer discharged his service weapon and the person died at the scene.

The identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which is now being handled by Virginia State Police.
