SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Shenandoah County that occurred on Sunday, June 8.

Sergeant Brent Coffey says the crash happened at around 3am on Interstate 81 at mile-marker 284 near Woodstock.

A 2005 Ford F150 was traveling south on I-81 when it attempted to pass a 2023 Toyota RAV4 on the right shoulder. The Ford lost control and collided with the Toyota before overturning.

The driver of the Ford, 43-year-old Jose O. Torres of Broadway, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. He died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 56-year-old female from San Diego, California, and one adult passenger were transported to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Two other adult passengers were not injured. They all were wearing seatbelts.

Coffey says the crash remains under investigation.
