TIMBERVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) — A town in Rockingham County has voted to remove fluoride from public water service.

Timberville Town Council unanimously voted during last week’s meeting to refrain from adding fluoride to the town’s water.

Town Manager Austin Garber says the Council has been considering discontinuing the treatment since the early 2000’s, but the discussion reemerged when recent supply chain issues made obtaining fluoride difficult.

“It was kind of a combination of cost, availability of the fluoride, and then the council determining people can get fluoride elsewhere.”

Garber added that many of the Health Department grants that had previously funded the maintenance of fluoride-regulating equipment are no longer available to the town as of this year.
