HARRISONBURG VA: (Rocktown Now) – A wetter, more unsettled pattern settles over the Shenandoah Valley today into the weekend as several disturbances move through the Mid‑Atlantic. Today starts with increasing clouds and scattered showers, then transitions to a higher chance of afternoon thunderstorms as a cold front moves in. While the strongest storms should track east of the Valley, any storm locally could still deliver heavy rain. According to the National Weather Service, scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected between about noon and 6 PM, especially east of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Virginia into northern and central Maryland. These storms may contain damaging wind gusts and possibly an isolated tornado, especially across north-central Maryland.
Friday brings lingering showers and mostly cloudy skies, followed by a more active Saturday as stronger upper‑level energy and another front support widespread showers and thunderstorms. Heavy downpours are possible at times. By Sunday, showers become more scattered and less intense as moisture shifts south and the main trough moves overhead, with conditions gradually trending cooler and drier late in the day.
