STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) – With temperatures forecast to be in the upper nineties for the majority of this week, the Staunton Cooling Shelter is opening its doors to provide to those in need an oasis from the summer heat.

The outreach provides a cool space for Waynesboro, Augusta County, and Staunton City residents who are unhoused or lack working air conditioning.

The shelter’s grand opening kicks off Monday morning, June 29th, at 11 o’clock at Faith Lutheran Church on North Lewis Street.

Following a brief tour of the facilities, a lunch will also be provided today at Central United Methodist Church across the street.

Those interested in volunteering can call (540) 886-3441 or email StauntonCoolingShelter@gmail.com.
