SHENANDOAH COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office has announced their newest furry member, Xena.

Xena is a one-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever who just celebrated her first birthday on May 21st. She is currently in training to become a Firearm and Explosives Detection K9, working alongside her handler, Master Deputy Colton Manich.

SCSO says this week marks a significant milestone in her training as she begins odor imprinting—the process of introducing and familiarizing her with the specific scents of firearms and explosives. Xena and Master Deputy Manich are undergoing an intensive certification program in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, which will continue through the end of August.

SCSO added that K9 Xena has already shown great potential and enthusiasm for her role, and they are proud to support her development and look forward to the valuable contribution she will make to public safety in Shenandoah County.
