ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg may be close to an agreement to continue joint operations of the Emergency Communications Center.

County officials sent a letter to Harrisonburg Mayor Deanna Reed back in June announcing their intentions to terminate their ECC agreement, effective June 3rd of 2030.

At issue was who was going to be hired as the director of the center.

County Administrator Casey Armstrong said on Early Mornings yesterday that they are now planning to move forward with the city on a new director.

“Ande Banks and myself have taken part in the interviews and we’re working to find the right person to fill that role. My hope is that we can hire a person that will eventually cause the retraction of that letter,” Armstrong said.

Armstrong added that he feels the center would be better operated together between the county and the city.
