BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Over 40 dogs were discovered on an abandoned property in Broadway today.
The RHSPCA responded to the situation and were able to rescue 15 dogs that were in the most critical condition and are now at the shelter. Over the coming weeks, they plan to bring the rest of the dogs to safety.
In an online post, the RHSPCA says the dogs have been “living in unimaginable conditions” after the owners had died, and that many are suffering from mange, parasites like tapeworms, and other serious health issues. They added that the road to recovery for these dogs will be long and costly and it will be possible with the help of their Have a Heart Fund, which is now strained by this emergency.
The RHSPCA says they desperately need fosters and funds to help save all of the dogs.
Even though the dogs aren’t ready for adoption, they will need foster homes while they heal. If you are interested in fostering, you can apply here.
The shelter also is taking donations for their Have a Heart Fund, which can be found here.
