HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Throughout July, Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA (RHSPCA) and Steven Nissan are inviting the community to meet the animals currently in the shelter’s care and consider how they can help, whether through adoption, fostering, sharing adoptable pets, volunteering, donating, or visiting the shelter to learn more.
“Community partners play such an important role in helping shelter pets get noticed,” said Sara Stone, Director of Development at RHSPCA. “When local businesses step forward, they help us reach more people, tell more stories, and connect more animals with the families they deserve.”
Summer is reportedly one of the busiest seasons for animal shelters, with RHSPCA experiencing some of its highest intake numbers during the warmer months. As more animals arrive and more pets need care, visibility and community support become especially important.
“Our animals are ready to roll,” said Stone. “There are dogs, cats, kittens, and small animals at RHSPCA with incredible personalities, and we know their people are out there. Partnerships like this help us bring those connections to life.”

Community members can meet and support animals throughout the remainder of July by:
- Visiting RHSPCA Monday through Saturday to meet animals available for adoption.
- Celebrating PetSmart National Adoption Week with RHSPCA from July 20–26, 2026.
- Applying to foster an animal and provide a temporary place to rest, grow, and prepare for
- adoption.
- Sharing RHSPCA’s adoptable animals with friends, family members, and social media networks.
