BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – The No. 9 nationally ranked Bridgewater College baseball team bested Marymount at home Tuesday afternoon with a final score of 10-5.
The Basics
Score: Bridgewater (BC) 10, Marymount (MU) 5
Records: BC (27-6), MU (16-13)
How It Happened
• Both teams searched for extra insurance to keep their respective momentum swings, but neither team could sustain a steady lead for much of the game. However, Bridgewater found the spark in late innings, leaving the Marymount Saints behind. In the first inning, MU struck first with an RBI double. BC responded in the bottom half of the frame with a two-run home run from Zack Chadwell.
• In the second inning, MU pulled ahead with a pair of RBIs executed by an RBI double and an RBI single. The Saints added a two-run lead in the third inning, with their second RBI single.
• BC broke out of its low scoring production in the fourth, as Trent Holland helped the Eagles initiate a scoring rally with a two-run homer. BC knotted the score at four apiece.
• MU took back the lead with a fielding mistake by BC. BC was again in rally mode facing a one-run deficit. Chadwell began the late surge in the seventh, launching a double to left field to score Nick Stavros and Ashton Smith. Bryce Suters followed that up with a double down the left field line to bring home Chandler Valbak and Chadwell. The final offensive attack came from Isaac Sumpter as he pinch hit for TJ Johnson and nailed a bullet to left-center field to score Bransen Hensley. MU ran out of gas as Hunter Covill, Gary Tompkins, and Tanner Evans sealed the lead, finishing with a 10-5 victory.
Game Notes
• Despite Marymount recording 11 hits to Bridgewater’s nine, the Saints only managed to execute five runs.
• Hunter Covill earned his first win of the season in relief for Jaden Isidro with a final stat line of three innings pitched on two hits, one run, and three strikeouts.
• Zack Chadwell led the game in offensive production with four RBIs, two runs, and two hits.
