HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — After a 5-day trial, a jury has found an Albemarle County man guilty on several charges related to a 2023 double homicide in Harrisonburg.

23-year-old Chavis Barbour was found guilty on three of four charges in the case including first degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, and using a firearm in commission of a felony. A second charge for using a firearm was dropped.

The two victims, Calour Fields, 17, and D’Angelo Gracy, 22, were shot at an apartment on Newberry Lane in Harrisonburg on April 14, 2023.

On Monday, Barbour pleaded not guilty and on Thursday, the defense called witnesses to the stand, including Barbour, who reportedly told the jury he shot the victims in an act of self-defense.

Chavis is currently already serving a two-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug charges back in the fall of 2024.

Barbour’s pretrial will begin August 10.
