HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball swept a doubleheader with Georgia State to win its final home series of the season, winning game one 4-3 before taking game two 9-6 on Friday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.

The Dukes (24-22, 10-10 Sun Belt) used great pitching from Kirsten Fleet (4.0 IP, 2 H, 3 K) to edge out the Panthers (25-27, 4-16 Sun Belt) before five Dukes recorded multiple hits in game two, highlighted by a 2-for-2 effort from Kendra Lewis. The junior added a run scored, a double and four RBIs in her game two performance.

Fleet (8-2) earned the win in the circle the first game, prior to Allie Braly (3-1) tossing three innings of relief to earn the second win of the day.

JMU 4, GSU 3
Georgia State and the Dukes traded runs in the first inning, with GSU going ahead with a sac fly before JMU tied it on a fielding error.

The Dukes then scored three runs across the next two innings, coming from a Cali Legzdin solo homer in the second and a two-run double from Emily LeGrand in the third for a 4-1 lead. The Panthers plated two in the fifth to come within a run, using a solo shot and an error to make it 4-3.

Fleet shut the door for game one though by retiring the final seven batters she faced to secure the win.

JMU 9, GSU 6
JMU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, getting runs in on an error and a sacrifice fly before LeGrand capped the scoring with her 10th homer of the season.

The two teams then traded homers, with GSU hitting a two-run homer to get within one but Payton List hit her 10thhomer of the year – a three-run homer – to push the Dukes back out 6-2.

Two two-run singles in the fifth plated four runs for the visitors, tying the game at six. The tie was short-lived though, as Bella Henzler hit a go-ahead-two-run-homer to straight-away center field to give JMU an 8-6 lead. Four batters later, Lewis doubled down the first base line to bring home another run.
