HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball completed a weekend sweep of Georgia State with a 6-3 victory on Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
JMU (25-22, 11-10 Sun Belt) capitalized offensively throughout the contest, scoring in five different innings. Georgia State (25-28, 4-17 Sun Belt) attempted a late rally, but could not overcome the deficit.
Madison Edwards paced the offense with a multi-hit day, including an RBI double, while Cali Legzdin reached base twice and scored two runs. Bella Henzler added an RBI double of her own, and Payton List, Kendra Lewis, and Kate Carrier each drove in runs.
In the circle, Payton List earned her seventh win of the season after striking out six across 5.0 innings of work, while Taylor Johnson recorded her second career save with a scoreless seventh inning.
How It Happened:
– The Dukes opened the scoring in the first inning when List brought home Edwards with an RBI groundout.
– The Dukes added three more in the third, highlighted by Edwards’ RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Lewis.
– Henzler extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with an RBI double to center field.
– JMU added another in the fifth after a wild pitch allowed Kylee Gleason to score.
– Georgia State rallied for three runs in the sixth to cut into the deficit.
– The Dukes responded in the bottom half of the inning with an insurance run after Cali Legzdin scored on a Georgia State fielding error.
