CLEARWATER, Fla. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball fell to No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 23 FAU on Sunday to close its weekend at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational. The Dukes (2-5) dropped the day’s first game against the Aggies (6-3), 11-0 in five innings, before falling to the Owls (6-4), by a score of 13-2.
Texas A&M 11, JMU 0 | Five Innings
• The Aggies jumped out to a lead early, bringing home five runs in the second inning with a trio of singles.
• A homer in the third added two runs to the eight-ranked team’s lead, making it 7-0.
• Texas A&M plated four runs in the fourth, taking an 11-0 advantage that would lead to the run-rule victory.
FAU 13, JMU 2
• FAU scored four runs in the first, on a pair of doubles sandwiched around a two-run homer.
• After the Owls scored two runs in the top of the fourth to lead 6-0, sophomore Emily LeGrand put the Dukes on the board with a two-run homer. Her third homer of the year made it a 6-2 score.
• A seven-run seventh inning for the Owls, capped by a three-run homer, pushed their lead to 13-2.
Game Notes:
• It was the inaugural matchup for the Dukes against Texas A&M, while it was the first time JMU and FAU met since the 2019 St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational.
• Junior Madison Edwards recorded a hit in both contests, going 1-for-2 against Texas A&M before a 2-for-4 performance versus FAU.
• BK Lanier made her first collegiate appearance in the circle, pitching 0.1 innings against the Aggies.

The Dukes head to Greenville, N.C. to play in the ECU Invitational on Feb. 20-22. They’ll open invitational play on Friday, Feb. 20 with St. Bonaventure at 10 a.m., before playing the host Pirates at 3 p.m.
