TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison baseball fell on Saturday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium, 16-5, as No. 16 Florida State scored multiple runs in five-of-six innings in a run-rule victory.

The Dukes fell to 0-2, while the Seminoles improved to 2-0.

Junior Ike Schmidly had a career day at the plate to lead JMU, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, a double and two RBI in his first three-hit performance of his career.

How It Happened
First Inning
A pair of doubles and a sacrifice fly gave FSU an early 2-0 lead.

Second Inning
Freshman Keegan Haesler led off the inning with a double, coming around to score two batters later on a groundout. After two walks, Schmidly connected on a double to left center to plate both runners and put the Dukes ahead 3-2.

The Seminoles responded with four runs in the home half of the inning, using a three-run homer to take the lead for good and added a run on a wild pitch to lead 6-3.

Fourth Inning
Back-to-back singles for the Noles plated two more runs for an 8-3 advantage.

Fifth Inning
JMU got two runs back, as Schmidly led off the inning with a single before scoring on senior Wyatt Campbell’s double. Two wild pitches pushed Campbell to third and then across home plate to make the score 8-5.

FSU pushed four runs across to respond, making it 12-5.

Sixth Inning
The Noles added another four runs in the home half of the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.

The Dukes will wrap up their series with FSU tomorrow, Feb. 15. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
