MONROE, La. (JMU Athletics) – A fielding error to begin the sixth inning allowed ULM to score three unearned runs, winning Saturday’s game 6-4 against James Madison baseball at Lou St. Amant Field.
The Dukes fell to 17-24 overall and 7-13 in Sun Belt Conference action, while the Warhawks improved to 23-20 (10-10 Sun Belt).
Junior Ike Schmidly led the Dukes at the plate by going 2-for-4 with a homer, a run scored and three RBI.
How It Happened
First Inning
The Dukes struck first in the first, as senior Jack Guerrero singled in a run for a 1-0 lead.
Fifth inning
ULM took the lead on a two-out, two-run single after a double steal put runners into scoring position.
Sixth Inning
Junior Ike Schmidly hit his third homer in two days, smashing a 429-foot-long-three-run homer to put JMU back ahead at 4-2.
After a fielding error allowed the Warhawks to have the leadoff runner on base, three singles brought in four runs with three runs being ruled unearned for a 6-4 lead.
