HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — Eyewitnesses rescued an incapacitated driver and suppressed an electrical fire following an accident yesterday in Harrisonburg.
Fire Chief Matt Tobia says, shortly after 2:30 pm, units responded to reports of a vehicle collision with a ground pad transformer attached to the Chili’s Restaurant on the 1900 block of East Market Street.
“Immediately after the collision there was a fire in the transformer itself, and a civilian used a fire extinguisher to control the fire,” Tobia said. “Other civilians were able to remove the driver from the vehicle.”
The woman at the wheel and sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Crews were able to contain a large volume of non-toxic, mineral oil-based transmitter coolant spilled during the incident in about 3 hours.
Harrisonburg Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
