HARRISONBURG, Va. (ROCKTOWN NOW) – Design renderings of the new play structure Kids Castle Playground at Purcell Park were unveiled Wednesday evening.

Harrisonburg Communications Director Mike Parks says those in attendance gave glowing reviews during the public engagement meeting.

“When we were able to present those designs to our Community last night, really what we heard was a lot of people were very excited about the direction that this is going,” Parks said. “There’s still a castle element to this – in fact there there’s an even bigger and better castle element to this – but there are a number of other things that kids had asked for, that people were excited about last night”

Amenities in the playground’s concept include multiple slides and two zip lines. The structure will also be elevated, according to Parks.

“So, some of the flooding issues that we’ve had at that playground should not be as much of an issue in the future,” Parks said. “There’s plenty of seating, there are areas for toddlers, there are areas for younger children. And there’s some more exciting elements for our older children.”

Parks says he hopes construction will be completed by next fall.
