WARREN COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A Harrisonburg man has been arrested following a pursuit in Warren County.
On June 18, 2026, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office reported executing an enforcement operation stemming from an ongoing investigation by the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug and Gang Task Force (NVRDGTF) targeting a wanted suspect involved in significant drug distribution activities affecting Warren County. WCSO deputies and the Special Operations Team served as the lead operational component for the enforcement action.
Task Force investigators had developed information that 37-year-old Brian Terrell Richardson, of Harrisonburg, VA, was traveling to Warren County and was allegedly suspected of transporting a large quantity of methamphetamine.
During an attempted high-risk traffic stop on Interstate 66 eastbound, Richardson reportedly failed to comply with law enforcement emergency lights and sirens and fled from deputies. As Richardson exited Interstate 66 at Exit 6 at a high rate of speed, his vehicle sideswiped a passenger vehicle, causing visible damage and two flat tires to that vehicle. Richardson continued to flee without stopping. During the pursuit, he drove recklessly, swerving toward law enforcement vehicles and endangering surrounding motorists. Due to the significant threat posed by Richardson’s actions and his suspected involvement in narcotics distribution, pursuit tactics were authorized.
The pursuit entered the Town of Front Royal, where Richardson was observed throwing objects from his vehicle. He then continued westbound on Strasburg Road, repeatedly discarding items from the passenger-side window while attempting to evade law enforcement.
After entering Shenandoah County, a pursuing deputy successfully executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) before the pursuit reached the more densely populated areas of Strasburg. The maneuver safely brought the pursuit to an end. Two dogs present in Richardson’s vehicle fled the scene following the stop and were subsequently recovered. Richardson was taken into custody without serious injury to any civilians, law enforcement personnel, or himself.
Law enforcement officers recovered all items discarded from Richardson’s vehicle during the pursuit. The recovered evidence included approximately 690 grams of methamphetamine and 82 pressed fentanyl pills. Evidence recovered from the vehicle included $4,311 in U.S. currency.
Richardson was arrested on an outstanding warrant for Distribution of a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance and additionally charged with the following offenses:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I/II Controlled Substance (2 counts)
- Felony Eluding
- Obstruction of Justice
- Felony Hit and Run
- Animal Cruelty (2 counts)
Richardson was transported to Warren Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation before being lodged at RSW Regional Jail where he was held without bond on all charges.
