HARRISONBURG, VA (Rocktown Now) — The severe winds and rain that ripped through the Harrisonburg Farmers Market last Saturday, September 5, 2026, is still fresh in the minds of organizers heading into this weekend’s market.

Manager Sarah Gorman hopes to recover some of the losses incurred by the thunderstorm that long-term vendors claim was the worst weather seen at the farmers market in 30 years.

“We had thunder shaking the pavilion. We had produce floating down rivers of water in the parking lot. Vendors’ tents were flying around and crumpling, broken,” Gorman said. “There were lots of damp and damaged merchandise, and, thankfully, nobody was injured.”

Gorman added that the Farmers Market and some vendors plan to file insurance claims to see if any of the resulting damage is eligible for reimbursement.

Rain or shine, the Harrisonburg Farmers Market opens tomorrow morning at 8 o’clock.
