BEDFORD, VA (Rocktown Now) — Governor Glenn Youngkin spoke today at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Virginia about his appreciation for those who served.
“The greatest generation, who are here with us, who are here to keep alive the spirit, the true American spirit, are these mighty heroes, to demonstrate our everlasting gratitude to those who gave their last full measure of devotion because [of] liberty and freedom.”
D-Day took place 81 years ago today, on June 6, 1944. It is one of the most important moments of the United States war efforts during World War II.
The term “D-Day” refers to the launch date of Operation Overlord. In military terms, “D-day” refers to the start date of any military operation.
Today, June 6, we remember the sacrifices of the men and women who risked their lives at the Normandy coast of France during World War II.
