AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has removed last week’s list of sanctuary jurisdictions from its official website.
Last week, the Department published a list of cities and counties allegedly not complying with federal immigration law enforcement, which included both Augusta County and Albemarle Counties, and the City of Charlottesville.
In reaction to the publication, the National Sheriff’s Association posted a statement on their website saying, “The completion and publication of this list has not only violated the core principles of trust, cooperation, and partnership with fellow law enforcement, but it also has the potential to strain the relationship between Sheriffs and the White House administration.”
Augusta County officials also stated over the weekend that they were seeking clarification as to why the area was included on the now deleted list.
