STAUNTON, VA (Rocktown Now) — Byers Street has reopened for the first time since March 2025. It will serve as the main eastbound detour for the next phase of the Downtown Tunnel Repairs.

Beginning today, October 1, at 7 a.m., West Johnson Street will close to through traffic near the parking garage as excavation begins on that section of the tunnel.

The eastern Wharf lot has reopened, and the total available downtown parking by about 25 spaces. There are still some areas in the eastern half of the Wharf Lot that remain fenced off.
