VERONA, VA (Rocktown Now) – Augusta County Clerk of Circuit Court R. Steven Landes and the Augusta County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office is looking for individuals who would be willing to provide volunteer hours each week to assist with projects to organize, preserve and digitize historic records dating back as far as 1745.
“We are in need of citizens who can volunteer to assist our Deputy Clerk – Archivist Whitney Rhodes with numerous projects to assist the Clerk’s Office with organizing, preserving, and digitizing Augusta County’s important historic documents and records,” Landes said. “If you want to contribute to preserving and protecting Augusta County’s history, we hope you will apply and become part of our volunteer team.”
Volunteers who are interested in Augusta County’s history can assist with document conservation and preservation and utilize archival methods. Training is provided and volunteers can work as many hours as they wish.
Historic Records Volunteer candidates must apply. Each volunteer applicant must complete and submit an application, which can be found online at the Augusta County website and the Circuit Court Clerk webpage on the Historic Records, Preservation Volunteer section.
The skills helpful for a Clerk’s Office Historic Records Volunteer reportedly include knowledge of Virginia’s history; attention to detail; ability to multi-task; work as a team player; ability to follow directions and willingness to learn; and proficiency in operating a computer and scanner.
