AUGUSTA COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — Augusta County has been listed as a “sanctuary jurisdiction defying federal immigration law” by the Department of Homeland Security.

President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14-287 entitled “Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens” requires a list to be published that identifies states and localities that obstruct the enforcement of Federal immigration law, also known as sanctuary jurisdictions.

D.H.S. points to 20 counties in Virginia that meet the Order’s criteria including Augusta County and Albemarle County, as well as the City of Charlottesville.

According to the D.H.S. website, each jurisdiction appearing on the list for failing to assist federal law enforcement, restricting information, and providing legal protection for illegal aliens will receive formal notification of its non-compliance with Federal statutes.
