BROADWAY, VA (Rocktown Now) — An early morning fire has displaced the residents of a Rockingham County apartment building.

According to the Rockingham County Fire and Rescue, reports of a “structure fire” came in shortly after midnight this morning, and crews were dispatched to the 400-block of South Main Street in Broadway.

Assistant Fire Marshall Tyler Jessup says the fire they found left the four-unit apartment complex uninhabitable. “We did conduct an investigation last night and believe that the fire was possibly caused by the stove in the unit that was involved in the fire.”

Jessup says the blaze was under control by 12:40am.

While some residents were medically evaluated for smoke inhalation, no one was seriously hurt in the incident.

The Red Cross will make contact with the displaced residents regarding assistance moving forward.
