FISHERSVILLE, VA (Rocktown Now) — A gas leak led to an evacuation of the Amazon Fulfilment Center Monday, June 22, 2026, in Fishersville.

At around 7:15 PM, Battalion Chief Shawn Brown said Augusta County Fire and Rescue responded to 32 Trader Road where employees had already evacuated after a hydrogen-based fuel cell used to power equipment at the facility sprung a leak.

“It was part of a piece of equipment,” Brown said. “When they noticed the leak, they were able to isolate it, so it was just sitting in the middle of the floor basically by itself once we got there.”

Brown reported that the local hazardous materials team evaluated atmospheric conditions before crews in protective gear entered the affected area and stopped the leak, ultimately clearing the scene about an hour and a half later.

There were no injuries or damage resulting from the incident, and there is no danger to the public.
