As three nearby wildfires have been fully contained over the last week, crews have their hands full with another one near Natural Bridge.
The U-S Forest Service said early this morning that the 76-hundred-acre Matts Creek Fire near Natural Bridge is just 27 percent contained. Nearly 300 emergency responders are on scene.
Operations Lead Shane Sturgill said yesterday that firefighters were intentionally setting fires at the top of surrounding ridges to help control the spread.
Forest Service officials warn that air quality in Bedford, Amherst and Rockbridge counties could be impacted by heavy smoke throughout the morning.
