Harrisonburg City Council is still weighing whether it wants to move forward with a 475-thousand-dollar skatepark in the city’s West End – even though backing out of a signed contract would cost the city around 75-thousand in ARPA funding.
Work on the proposed facility inside Westover Park was halted earlier this summer after skaters voiced displeasure with American Ramp Company and their plans for the new skating surface.
At last night’s meeting, Parks and Recreation director Brian Mancini advised the council to continue the contract, while changing previously agreed-upon details.
Ending the deal would cost the city 60-thousand dollars in cancellation fees, on top of 15-thousand in money already spent.
