WASHINGTON DC: (WSVA) – For the third time in recent memory, the federal government is on the brink of a financial shutdown – and Virginia U-S Senator Mark Warner is creating a sense of urgency ahead of the deadline.
Lawmakers won’t return to Capitol Hill from their holiday recess until next week, when they’ll have less than two weeks to pass the necessary bills and fund certain agencies past January 19th.
The entire government needs new funding by February 2nd, thanks to the temporary spending plan passed before Thanksgiving.
On social media, Senator Warner blamed Republicans for “circling back after the holidays” on issues like government funding and support for allies.
He added that Congress must focus on getting it done as soon as possible.
