Virginia U-S Senator Mark Warner is asking Google to proceed with caution as it tests a virtual medical assistant that is powered by artificial intelligence.
Warner sent a letter this week to Google’s chief executive, warning the company about releasing an “unproven technology” into the medical industry.
In a social media post, the senator said he is “deeply alarmed” about the development.
According to reports, the chatbot – known as Med-PaLM2 – can organize patient data, respond to medical questions, and write summaries of doctors’ notes.
Physicians at the Mayo Clinic have said they prefer the artificial responses to their questions over those of other doctors.
