Authorities say that a vehicle fire yesterday on Interstate 64 westbound created the spark that turned into a full-blown forest fire on Afton Mountain.
This driver was headed east on I-64 just after one o’clock yesterday afternoon.

Last night, Route 250 was closed near Waynesboro so fire crews could drop water from a helicopter onto the fire.
Smoke from that blaze and others in the area is contributing to poor, even hazardous air quality in the Valley today.
