Virginia’s sales-tax-free weekend is coming back next summer as part of the amended state budget that lawmakers approved last week.
The three-day period in which the state’s 4-point-3 percent sales tax and accompanying local taxes were waived on back-to-school supplies and clothing had enjoyed broad support since its inception 17 years ago.
However, the tax holiday was not renewed during the 2022 legislative session because of an apparent oversight by the General Assembly.
The amended state budget also includes a boost in standard tax deductions to 85-hundred dollars for a single filer and 17-thousand dollars for joint filers.
It does not include the one billion dollars in tax cuts the governor had requested.
