A candidate for Staunton City Council says he chose not to participate in a forum yesterday out of fear for his personal well-being.
In a message posted yesterday on social media, Wilson Fauber said that “increased concern over safety” for both he and his supporters led him to back out of the event at Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church.
He had previously agreed to attend the forum alongside opponent Adam Campbell.
It’s unclear what specific threats Fauber was facing, but he blamed the decision on “continued vitriol” against him on social media, along with a “direct threat of personal violence.”
