Rockingham County supervisors voted last night to table a decision about rezoning land for a large housing development near a busy roadway. 15 county residents spoke out against the proposed 280-unit project near Boyers Road and Stone Spring Road during last night’s meeting. The project would include a mix of one, two and three-bedroom single-family homes. Speakers cited concerns about the loss of wildlife habitat, flood risks, and potential overcrowding of area schools – as well as an increase in traffic. V-DOT has recommended changes to the traffic pattern to accommodate an influx of vehicles. Supervisors will reconsider the issue at their next meeting on September 13th.
