The U-S Forest Service is set to conduct a prescribed burn this week in Rockingham County.

Deputy District Ranger Gregg Slezak explains that the Gauley Ridge burn unit will be located south of Gate Mountain and 20 miles northeast of the City of Harrisonburg.

Slezak adds that fire specialists will begin blacklining the 13-hundred burn tomorrow afternoon and then will ignite the main unit of the burn on Thursday.

Folks may see smoke from this prescribed burn for several days but they should not be alarmed.

Of course, the burn is weather permitting.
