PETERSBURG VA: (WSVA) – A Virginia State University police officer has been upgraded to stable condition after being shot just outside campus grounds early Sunday morning.
39-year-old Bruce Foster, a five-year veteran of V-S-U Police, was reportedly responding to a dispute around 1:30 yesterday morning when he was shot while working to diffuse the situation, leaving the officer critically injured.
The Petersburg college was placed under lockdown for the duration of the morning following the incident. Officials lifted the lockdown just after noon.
Multiple suspects in connection with the shooting remain at large. At this point, police do not believe they were V-S-U students.
