A two-day crackdown by Virginia State Police kicks off today along the entirety of Interstate 64.
In a release, Spokesperson Corrinne Geller said that Operation DISSrupt targets distracted and impaired drivers, with enhanced attention on speed and seat belt enforcement.
She added that these are the four main causes of serious crashes in the commonwealth, and the goal of the operation is to eliminate all fatal accidents through the end of the week.
According to state police, 674 people have died in traffic crashes this year – not counting the 99 pedestrians who have been struck and killed on Virginia roadways.
Geller says that state police will turn their attention to interstates 81 and 66 in the coming months.
