Visitors to Shenandoah National Park will have a little more elbow room this summer.
Officials announced yesterday that nearly a thousand acres have been gifted to the park by the Shenandoah National Park Trust, which purchased the conjoined land from private owners using money from a 2016 settlement with industrial chemical producer Dupont.
Park spokesperson Claire Comer said this newly protected land includes the headwaters of Naked Creek in Page County.
The acquisition pushes the park’s total land coverage to more than 198-thousand acres.
