Richmond VA: For the second time this week, Governor Glenn Youngkin has issued an executive order – this time directing school divisions to notify parents of school-connected overdoses within 24 hours.
The move comes in response to a situation at a Loudoun County school last month where eight students overdosed on what the sheriff’s office believes to be fentanyl. The school division reportedly waited more than 20 days to tell parents what happened.
The order requires that any on-campus overdose event be reported to parents within one calendar day. Schools will also work more closely with law enforcement to prevent overdoses, and issue more guidance about the dangers of drug abuse.
In a release, the governor said “Parents have a right to know what’s going on in their child’s life.”
