HARRISONBURG VA: (WSVA) -The N-C-A-A has denied a last-chance postseason eligibility waiver for James Madison University Football that would have allowed the Dukes to compete in a bowl game next month.
J-M-U was one of three schools pushing for postseason inclusion this week as it fights an N-C-A-A rule prohibiting bowl appearances for two years after a program transitions to college football’s highest level.
In a statement, the school said that it is “disappointed” and “saddened” by the decision, but will focus on “maximizing” this weekend’s events ahead of the 10-0 Dukes’ final home game against Appalachian State.
J-M-U could still be placed in a smaller bowl by default if there aren’t enough eligible six-win teams to fill all the slots.
