HARRISONBURG, Va. – Anna Crumb of James Madison field hockey has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach, Head Coach Chisty Morgan announced on Wednesday afternoon. The 2023 season will be Crumb’s fifth as a member of the program.
“I’m super excited that we could elevate Coach Crumb to the role of associate head coach,” said Morgan. “She has grown along as the program has grown and is fully prepared for the responsibility of this position. Her attitude, work ethic, and desire to grow the individual prepares her for greatness.”
The 2022 season saw JMU compete as an independent with a rigorous schedule that included eight ranked opponents, six in the top 15. Nonetheless, the Dukes came away with four wins over nationally-ranked teams, including two NCAA Tournament teams in Liberty and Wake Forest. Overall, James Madison finished 10-7, with five of the seven losses decided by one goal, three of which were in overtime. Three Dukes earned NFHCA Division I All-South Region honors in Eveline Zwager (First Team), Diede Remijnse (Second Team), and Kara McClure (Second Team). James Madison was ranked as high as 17th in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll and finished the year 22nd.
During her tenure with the Dukes, Crumb has helped guide the program to a 36-27 (.571) record in four seasons, highlighted by a pair of Colonial Athletic Association regular season titles in spring 2021 and fall 2021. Additionally, the team has seen four individuals earn NFCHA All-Region honors and 14 named all-conference in that span. Zwager was tabbed as the CAA Player of the Year twice (2020, 2021) as well as a Third Team All-American by the NFHCA in 2021 and 2022.
The Dukes will be competing as an independent team in the 2023 season and will play 18 games, including 10 home games. Ten home games are the most for the program since the 2015 season when 12 contests were held at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
JMU is set to officially join the Mid-American Conference (MAC) as an affiliate member in 2024.
