CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Tied at three heading into the ninth inning, James Madison baseball used three extra base hits and a sacrifice fly to push across five runs to win 8-4 over Marshall on Sunday afternoon at GoMart Ballpark to close out an eight-game road trip with a sweep.

The Dukes matched last season’s win total and improved to 27-20 and 12-10 in Sun Belt Conference action while the Thundering Herd dropped their seventh straight and are now 16-29, 5-19 SBC.

Junior Joe Vogatsky (4-1) tossed 1.1 innings to earn the win. At the plate, sophomore Fenwick Trimble led with a career-high tying 4-for-4 effort with a walk, a home run, an RBI, two doubles and three runs scored.

How It Happened
First Inning
JMU scored first with a pair of runs on back-to-back singles. After two got on, freshman Mike Mancini beat out a throw from the first baseman to score redshirt junior Mason Dunaway. Redshirt senior Trevon Dabney then followed Mancini with a single up the middle to score Trimble.

Marshall would take one of those runs back on a sacrifice fly.

Second Inning
After a leadoff single, the Herd would tie the game on a triple to score Gio Ferraro before taking the lead on a single to next at bat for a 3-2 score.

Third Inning
Trimble led off the third with his 22nd double of the season before scoring on a groundout to tie the game at three.

Ninth Inning
Freshman Jaden Kinsler tossed a season-high 5.2 innings of scoreless relief with a season-high seven strikeouts to hold the game tied before JMU erupted for five runs. The crooked inning began with Trimble leading off with his 12th homer of the year to give the Dukes a 4-3 lead. After back-to-back walks to Mancini and Dabney, sophomore Jason Schiavone doubled in both runners. Graduate Jaylon Lee followed with a pinch hit triple to score Schiavone for a 7-3 lead before scoring himself on sophomore Coleman Calabrese’s sacrifice fly.
