New revenue collection data from West Virginia paints a rosy financial picture for the Mountain State so far this fiscal year.

According to numbers released by the West Virginia State Budget Office, general tax collections last month amounted to 531 million dollars – which is about 52 million higher than expected.

In a release, Governor Jim Justice said the surplus was driven by strong income tax and interest collections. He added that the data proves the state’s “diversification and responsible budgeting” are paying off.

Seven months into the fiscal year, West Virginia has now collected nearly 3-point-3-billion in general revenue – more than 450 million ahead of estimates.
