Page County residents may see large areas of national forest on fire throughout the day. But park rangers say don’t worry – it’s all part of the plan.
The U-S Forest Service has announced plans for a prescribed burn today, covering nearly 400 acres of Indian Grave and Seakford Fields north of Luray.
District Ranger Mary Yonce said in a release that the goal is to restore overall forest health by reducing hazardous wildfire fuel and reviving wildlife habitats.
Authorities say the blaze will last no longer than one day, but they warn that smoke may linger in the area for several days after.
