It’s a day of public mourning for the Wintergreen police officer who was killed in the line of duty earlier this month.
Governor Glenn Youngkin will speak this afternoon during the open funeral service for fallen officer Chris Wager the Second, which is scheduled for noon at the Augusta Expo Event Center in Fishersville.
Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears will also attend.
The governor has also issued a half-staff order for U-S and Virginia flags through sunset tonight in memory of Officer Wagner.
The 31-year-old was fatally shot responding to an assault call on June 16th. 23-year-old Daniel Barmak is behind bars, facing charges that include aggravated murder of a law enforcement officer.
