HARRISONBURG VA: (WSVA) -Local farmers are receiving less of every dollar you spend at the grocery store. The farmer’s share of the U.S. food dollar has fallen to below 15 cents. That’s according to a new report from the USDA that indicates when the average American spends a dollar on food, only 14.9 cents of that dollar goes to the farm that produced that food.

The remaining 85 cents goes for things like transportation, processing, and marketing.
The farmer’s share has fallen by three cents over the past ten years.
