Two new drug courts aimed at treating and rehabilitating non-violent offenders will soon be seated in the northern Valley.

In a release last week, the Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition said that its long-planned courts have been approved for use by the Virginia Supreme Court in Shenandoah and Warren Counties.

Shenandoah County circuit court judge Kevin Black will preside over that county’s operations, while circuit court judge Daryl Funk will hold the gavel Warren County.

The coalition says that these courts will serve non-violent and non-sexual offenders who have high treatment needs and a charge related to drug or substance use.
