Last week, the Virginia Department of Elections said that it was correcting the state’s voter rolls after 275 people were erroneously removed when they were falsely classified as felons.

Now, Virginia Democrats on Capitol Hill are urging the U-S Department of Justice to take a closer look.

Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and Representative Abigail Spanberger provided three of the eight signatures on a letter to U-S Attorney General Merrick Garland, pushing the D-O-J to investigate those removals.

The Associated Press reports that the voters stricken from the roles were convicted of violating probation, a misdemeanor. In data provided from Virginia State Police, those convictions were incorrectly classified as felonies.

This comes as early voting is in full swing across the commonwealth.
